Sensory toys are specifically useful for engaging attention both cognitively and physically by stimulating one or more of the five senses: sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. Sensory toys help improve concentration and attention to tasks by allowing the brain to filter out the extra sensory information (e.g. listening to a lesson in the classroom, paying attention to a book).
Calming toys help people with autism to relax in stress-inducing situations.
