Finding the right opportunities for young autistic adults to build friendships, independence and confidence can sometimes be difficult. Travengers AU provides social and travel experiences designed specifically for young autistic adults aged 15 to 35, helping participants connect with others, explore new places and practise everyday skills with support that suits their needs.
Travengers AU focuses on real-world experiences rather than just discussing goals. Through social groups, supported outings and travel opportunities, participants can try new things, meet people with shared interests and take steps towards greater independence at their own pace.
Their travel experiences include short breaks, interstate adventures and overseas trips. Destinations have included places across Australia as well as international locations such as New Zealand, Japan, Fiji, Italy, Thailand, London and Paris. These trips are designed to support participants to develop travel skills, build friendships and experience new environments with the right level of support.
Travengers AU takes care of the planning involved in supported trips, helping participants prepare for their experience. Travel options can include trip coordination, support guides, accommodation, transport, activities and preparation before departure.
Alongside travel, Travengers AU offers a range of other programs including 1:1 support, social groups, gaming clubs, online travel training and virtual travel groups. These programs can help participants build community connections, practise skills and explore interests in welcoming environments.
For many families, finding age-appropriate opportunities for their young person to socialise and spend time in the community can make a real difference. Travengers AU also recognises that families often carry a lot of responsibility and that having safe, supported opportunities available can provide a valuable break for everyone.
Since launching in 2020, Travengers AU has supported more than 600 young people across Australia through hundreds of social events and more than 125 travel experiences. Their approach is based on creating a pathway towards greater independence, with many participants taking part over a number of years as they work towards their personal goals.
