Travelling can be challenging for individuals who require significant support due to a disability. That’s why we want to share some information about the Qantas Carer Concession Card, a program designed to make air travel more accessible for those with specific support needs.
Who is the Card For?
The Qantas Carer Concession Card is available for people with substantial support requirements arising from physical, sensory, intellectual, cognitive, or psychosocial disabilities. It’s intended for those who cannot travel without the full-time assistance of a carer while onboard the aircraft.
Eligible individuals typically need one-on-one support during the flight for tasks such as:
- Assistance with meals and drinks
- Support with toileting
- Administration of medication
- Orientation within the cabin
- Communicating with flight staff
It’s worth noting that the card is only for individuals who need continuous in-flight assistance. If someone only requires help with boarding or upon arrival, they won’t be eligible.
Special Considerations for People Who Are Blind or Have Vision Impairments
If you are blind or have a vision impairment, you might already qualify for discounted travel without needing to apply for the Qantas Carer Concession Card. You’re eligible if you hold one of the following:
- A current Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card with blind entitlement
- A current travel pass for Persons with Vision Impairment issued by a state or territory authority
If this applies to you, you only need to show your card or pass when travelling to access the carer discount.
Terms and Conditions
For all the terms and conditions please refer to the Qantas Application/Renewal Form.
