Understanding the autistic experiences of gaining an autism diagnosis – Research Call Out
Call out for participants in a Research Study on Understanding the autistic experiences of gaining an autism diagnosis
  • Do you identify as autistic? (self or formal diagnosis welcome)
  • Have you ever attempted to gain a diagnosis? (Successfully or unsuccessfully – i.e., have you ever spoken to any professional about going through an assessment procedure?)
  • Are you over 18 years of age?
What is requested of you.

Complete a 15-20 online questionnaire looking at your experience of being autistic, as well as your experience of going through an autism diagnostic process (or attempting to). You will be provided an option to participate in a follow-up interview, looking more in depth at such experiences.

Are there any risks in participating.

Whilst there are no foreseeable risks to participating in this research, we recognise that speaking about growing up neurodivergent and the diagnostic process may result in both positive and negative thoughts, which may be challenging for some people.

Who is conducting the research.

Stephanie Watts is a Neurodivergent (AuDHDer) PhD Candidate and Psychologist who will be conducting the research with Western Sydney University, under the supervision of Dr Steve Cumming, Dr Emilee Gilbert, and Dr Quincy Wong.

The research aims to support the autistic community through identifying different presentations and traits of autism, across all genders, as well as support earlier diagnosis, and in turn benefit autistic people’s mental health and self-understanding.
