What is National Child Protection Week?
National Child Protection Week was established in Australia by the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) in 1990 as a national campaign to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect and promote the importance of keeping children safe. Over the years, it has grown into a major national campaign that encourages families, communities, organisations and governments to recognise that protecting children is everyone’s responsibility. Today, National Child Protection Week is held each September and focuses on preventing harm before it occurs, raising awareness, supporting families and ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing remain a priority
One of the best ways to bring this message to life is by bringing families and the community together. This National Child Protection Week, Fairfield Library is hosting a fun morning for children and families on Wednesday 2 September, with plenty of activities to enjoy while also providing an opportunity to connect with local services and learn more about support available to families.
Something for everyone
There will be plenty happening throughout the morning, including:
Police Safety Preschool Storytime
Little ones can enjoy a fun Storytime session while learning some important safety messages.
Science show
Get ready for some exciting science and plenty of opportunities for curious young minds to discover something new.
Face painting
Kids can get creative and have some fun with face painting.
There will also be arts and craft activities, giving children a chance to get creative and make something of their own.
Families can also speak with local services about support and resources that may be available to them. National Child Protection Week aims to promote a safe and supported life for every child, now and into the future.
