Children’s Week 2025 is just around the corner, running from 18 to 26 October, and the Advocate for Children and Young People (ACYP) is inviting young artists across New South Wales to participate in the annual Art Competition. This year’s theme, “Everyone should know about children’s rights,” is inspired by Article 42 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. It serves as a reminder that every child, regardless of their identity, background, or where they live, is entitled to fundamental rights such as safety, education, and the opportunity to play.
Who Can Enter?
The competition is open to all children and young people up to the age of 18 living in New South Wales. Whether you’re an individual or part of a group, you are encouraged to submit your artwork. There are three age categories:
- Under 5 years
- 6 to 11 years
- 12 to 18 years
How to Enter
Entering the competition involves four simple steps:
- Research: Reflect on the rights that resonate most with you. Consider why these rights are important and who has helped you understand them.
- Create: Produce a portrait of someone who champions or has taught you about children’s rights. This could be a family member, teacher, community leader, or any individual who has made a positive impact.
- Describe: Write a brief description of your artwork, explaining the inspiration behind it and the message you wish to convey.
- Submit: Ensure your artwork is your original creation, not AI-generated, and submit it online through the ACYP website by Sunday, 12 October 2025.
Accepted mediums include drawing, painting, photography, collage, sculpture, textile work, and digital illustration. Group entries are welcomed and encouraged.
Prizes and Recognition
There will be three winners in each age category, with prizes including:
- 1st Prize: $200 gift card
- 2nd Prize: $100 gift card
- 3rd Prize: $50 gift card
Winning entries, along with up to 10 highly commended artworks, will be showcased in an online exhibition on Artsteps. The Advocate for Children and Young People, Zoë Robinson, will lead the judging panel, with additional judges to be announced.
Why Participate?
This competition offers a unique opportunity to express your understanding of children’s rights through art. It allows you to reflect on what these rights mean to you and share your perspective with others. Moreover, it’s a chance to have your work recognised and celebrated, contributing to a broader conversation about the importance of children’s rights in our society.
Autism Advisory & Support Service are not the organisers or point of contact for this event.
