Free Anxiety Support Groups in Liverpool

Anxiety, what is it?

In short, anxiety is the body’s response to worry and fear. It affects how people think, feel and act. But it’s really not that simple. Anxiety disorders can include: generalised anxiety disorder, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety and specific phobias.
There are a wide range of factors in how and why anxiety affects people. When your anxious feelings don’t go away, happen without any particular reason or prevents you from living your life the way you want to, it could be a sign or an anxiety disorder. The National Study of Mental Health and Wellbeing from 2020 – 2021 estimated that 17% of Australians experienced an Anxiety disorder.

Anxiety can feel extremely scary, isolating and even make some people feel ashamed. However, with the right supports, anxiety disorders are among the most treatable and manageable of all mental health problems. There are different ways to treat and manage anxiety and the right treatment for you will depend on the type of anxiety disorder you have; how severe it is and your circumstances.
