The It Takes Two to Talk (ITTTT) is an evidence-based, internationally recognised program developed by The Hanen Centre and implemented by a Lifestart Speech Pathologist. It is designed to support children aged from 18 months to 6 years who have a language delay and or difficulty communicating with others. This can include children who do not use any words and children who may have some words and/or use other forms of communication (e.g. sign) however if your child has a diagnosis to Autism, the Hanen More Than Words program would be better suited.
The It Takes Two to Talk Program teaches you, step-by-step, how to become your child’s most important language teacher. The program shows you how to:
- Recognise your child’s stage and style of communication so that, together with the speech-language pathologist, you can identify next steps and goals
- Identify what motivates your child to communicate
- Use the strategy “Follow the Child’s Lead” to build their confidence and encourage them to communicate with you
- Adjust everyday routines to help your child take turns back and forth in interactions
- Follow your child’s lead to build his confidence and encourage him to communicate
- Talk to your child in ways that help them understand language and then use it when they’re ready
- Use the strategies when you play and read books with your child to help them interact and learn language
You can expect:
- A 12-week intensive program to help you develop and use strategies to promote your child’s communication in everyday routines
- Interactive group sessions with other parents and our highly skills Speech Pathologists
- 8 x group sessions on Monday mornings
- 4 x one-on-one sessions to practice the skills learned in groups
