School Readiness Sessions for Families

School Readiness Sessions for Families

Starting school is a big step for children and their families. The transition can bring a mix of excitement and uncertainty, and understanding what lies ahead can help make things a little smoother.

The NSW Department of Education, with support from EACH – the Early Childhood Partner for the NDIS – is delivering two free online sessions for families to help prepare for this important time. These sessions are open to all families and carers of children who are getting ready to start school.

Please note: Autism Advisory & Support Service is sharing this information on behalf of EACH. We are not the point of contact for these sessions.

Session 1: Transition to School

🗓 Tuesday 13 May 2025
🕖 7:00pm – 8:00pm
📍 Online

This session will explore the differences between home, early childhood education and school. It will look at ways families can prepare both themselves and their child for the changes ahead.

Getting ready for school is something that involves the whole family. There’s lots to think about – from new routines to different expectations – and this session will highlight practical strategies to support a smooth and positive start to school life.

Session 2: Supports That May Be Available for Transition to School

🗓 Tuesday 27 May 2025
🕖 7:00pm – 8:00pm
📍 Online

This session will focus on supports that may be available for children with additional needs as they start school.

Topics include how to access extra support in areas like communication, emotional wellbeing, mental health, learning, and physical development. The session will also provide information on early intervention preschools for children who meet certain criteria.
