Keeping Children Safe from Sexual Harm

As parents, there are some conversations we know matter deeply, even if they feel hard to start. Keeping our children safe is one of them. That is why we are sharing an upcoming workshop that may support families in building confidence around these important topics.

Parent Workshop: Keeping Children Safe from Sexual Harm

This workshop, Keeping Children Safe from Sexual Harm. A Community Responsibility, is designed to support Muslim parents and carers with practical tools, clear information, and guidance to help keep children safe.

It is facilitated by experienced social workers Ola Elhassan from Bluegum Wellbeing and Aisha Akkawi, with support from BCRG. Together, they bring a thoughtful and respectful approach to what can often feel like a difficult subject.

The sessions will take place over two mornings in May at Yagoona Community Centre. The focus is on real, everyday parenting moments. It is not about overwhelming families with fear, but about helping parents feel more prepared and confident.

Topics covered include understanding what child sexual abuse is, recognising the signs of grooming both in person and online, and learning how to talk to children about body awareness and safety in a way that feels natural and age appropriate. There is also guidance on what to do if a child shares something concerning, including practical next steps.

As mums and carers, we often carry the quiet worry of wanting to get this right. How do we bring it up without scaring them? How do we teach safety while still letting them feel safe in their world? Spaces like this can help take some of that uncertainty away.

Child minding will be available on site and morning tea is provided, which can make attending just that little bit easier for busy families.

If this feels relevant to your family, you can find more information and register using the details on the flyer.

Please note that Autism Advisory & Support Service (AASS) is sharing this information with our community, however we are not affiliated with the event and are not the point of contact. All enquiries and bookings should be directed to the event organisers.
