Canterbury Bankstown Council are holding this practical workshop designed to deepen your understanding of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and equip you with real-world strategies that actually work.
What is ADHD?
In brief: ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects both children and adults. In adults, it often presents as difficulties with attention, organisation, emotional regulation, and time management—symptoms that can impact work, relationships, and daily life. ADHD is often misunderstood or missed altogether in adulthood, particularly among women or those who have developed coping mechanisms.
Presented by Malak Shakhtour – mental health social worker, clinical hypnotherapist, and psychotherapist – this session explores what it means to live with ADHD as an adult. Malak works in private practice, offering neuro-affirming and trauma-informed support to individuals navigating a range of mental health and neurodevelopmental needs.
In this workshop, participants will learn:
- What ADHD really is, beyond common stereotypes
- How it affects focus, emotions, motivation, and daily functioning
- Practical strategies that can be applied in everyday life
- Tools for managing overwhelm and staying regulated
- How to create supportive, ADHD-friendly environments at home and in the workplace
This workshop is relevant for adults with ADHD, those who suspect they may have it, and anyone supporting someone with ADHD.
Autism Advisory & Support Service is not the point of contact for this event. for more information head to the City of Canterbury Bankstown Council site. Early registration is recommended, as places are limited.
