The Liverpool City Council Seniors Festival 2026 includes an important community event, Facing Dementia Together. As part of the wider NSW Seniors Festival, this session focuses on practical information, clear guidance and real support for people impacted by dementia.
Dementia affects many families across South West Sydney. It can be confronting, confusing and at times isolating. Facing Dementia Together has been designed to provide straightforward information about recognising the signs of dementia, starting conversations with loved ones and understanding what supports are available locally.
The sessions will be held at the Hilda M Davis Senior Citizens Centre and are delivered in multiple languages including Vietnamese, Arabic and Chinese. This ensures more members of our community can access information in a way that feels comfortable and culturally appropriate.
Attendees will learn:
- Early signs and symptoms of dementia
- How to approach conversations about memory concerns
- Where to seek help and local support services
- Practical steps to plan ahead
These sessions are free and open to seniors, carers and family members. They are suitable for anyone who wants to better understand dementia and feel more confident supporting someone they care about.
Supporting Parents Caring for Ageing Parents
Many of the parents who access Autism Advisory & Support Service services are not only caring for their children, including children with additional needs, but are also supporting ageing parents. This “sandwich generation” is often balancing school meetings, therapy appointments and daily routines while also managing medical appointments, care decisions and emotional stress for their own parents.
The load can be heavy.
Events like Facing Dementia Together matter because they give people reliable information and a safe place to ask questions. When parents understand dementia better, they can make clearer decisions, plan earlier and reduce some of the uncertainty that comes with memory changes.
Access to the right knowledge can ease pressure on families. It helps carers feel less alone and more prepared for what may come next.
If you are supporting an ageing parent while raising children, this session may provide practical guidance and reassurance. You do not have to work it out on your own.
